Video game demonstrations part of Serious Games Forum at Purdue
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Leading experts from the video game industry to demonstrate new developments on April 5 as part of the Serious Games Forum at Purdue University.

"Serious Games are helping to address some of the nation's most pressing needs, such as reinvigorating the classroom and preparing workers for 21st century jobs," said Beverly Davenport Sypher, interim director of the Discovery Learning Center, one of 10 interdisciplinary research centers in Purdue's Discovery Park.

Doug Whatley, founder and CEO of BreakAway Inc., a leading developer of entertainment games, game-based simulations and training software, to demonstrate a new portable Virtual Reality System from WorldViz as part of the forum.


Whatley also to discuss why and how game-based simulations will be increasingly adopted for use by a wider audience, as well as how new tools based in game technology can be used in education, job training, the military and homeland security.


Other presenters include Rudoph P. Darken of MOVES and the Naval Postgraduate School, Andrea Lauer Rice of Lauer Learning and Howard Phillips of Microsoft Inc.


Chris Rahaim, professor of computer graphics technology at Purdue and organizer of the forum, said such events provide an opportunity for the public and private sectors to meet with experts in the video game industry to forge new links and learn from one another.


"University scholars, scientists, students and leading industry experts will be discussing their most recent projects," Rahaim said. "They will explore how video game technology continues to impact the way we play, teach, train, learn and communicate across a variety of industries and organizations."
