Blog Action Day: Climate Change Serious Games


In anticipation of the upcoming Blog Action Day 2009, to be held on October 15, when the blogosphere will have a unique opportunity to mobilize around the theme of Climate Change, here are some prominent examples of Serious Games that focus on the subject.

The issues particular to a Climate Change serious game are usually global warming related. Commonly included are CO2 emissions and the emission of other greenhouse gases, the melting of the polar ice caps, global sea-level rise, natural disasters and massive changes to lifestyles caused by global warming.

The primary objective, universal to climate change Serious Games, is to develop the player's familiarity and knowledge on the issue of global warming.
Another objective is to make the player aware of the challenges and obstacles that are faced when addressing global warming.

Occasionally, the games encourage players to develop ideas and solutions to global warming, e.g. World Without Oil

Logicity Game



LogiCity is a Serious Game produced by Logicom and The National Energy Foundation, an independent educational charity, based at Milton Keynes in the UK, that works to help people and businesses combat climate change by reducing their carbon emissions.

LogiCity is a game set in a 3D virtual city where players are set the task of reducing the carbon footprint of an average resident. As players work their way through the game they will pick up information about Climate Change, and some of the main ways in which everyone is currently contributing to the emissions of the main greenhouse gas (CO2) that causes Climate Change.


It places individuals in a virtual environment and lets them experiment and experience the potential effect that individual actions can have on the planet before it's too late. Users can travel to the future to see the direct results of their actions in real time by quickly fast forwarding to the year 2066.
